Edakkal Cave

Kuruva Island
The Kuruva island is near River Kabini in Wayanad and is an unhabited island of ever green forest on the tributaries of east flowing river, far away from the disturbances of city life. Rare species of birds, orchids and herbs are the sovereigns of this supernal kingdom. It is an ideal picnic spot and is 17kilometers east of Mananathavady and 40kms northwest of Sulthan Bathery.

Soochipara
Soochipara waterfalls is a spectacular three-tiered waterfalls in Vellarimala, Wayanad. One can reach Soochipara falls in 15-20 minutes from Meppadi through some of the best tea estates in Wayanad. Soochipara water falls is also known as Sentinal Rock waterfall, and since it is shaped as a needle like mountain, it is ,locally refered as Soochipara in malayalam (Soochi means needle, and para means Rock). This 200 meters high fall offers a cliff face i.e ideal for rock climbing.

Pookode Lake
At a distance of 3 km from Vythiri, and 13 km from Kalpetta, Pookote Lake, also known as Pookode Lake is a natural freshwater lake situated close to the Kalpetta - Kozhikode main road in the Wayanad district of Kerala.
The lake is under the South Wayanad forest division and is run by the District Tourism promotion council. Boating facilities, children's park, handicrafts and spices emporium, and freshwater aquarium are among the tourist attractions here. The lake premises also offer a fish spa which is quite famous here.

Karapuzha Dam
Karapuzha Dam located in the Wayanad district of Kerala, is one of the biggest earth dams in India. Karapuzha Dam is located in the greenish and natural regions of Wayanad, Kerala on the Karapuzha River, a tributary of the Kabini River. Construction on the dam began in 1977 and it was complete in 2004. The purpose of the dam is irrigation and it left and right bank canals are still under construction.

Banasura Sagar
Another tourist attraction of Kalpetta is Banasura Sagar dam. It is the largest earth dam in India and the second largest of its kind in Asia. The dam is made up of massive stacks of stones and boulders. The Banasura Sagar Dam is situated at a distance of 20 Km from kalpetta, the district headquarters. Banasura Sagar Dam is an ideal place for boating and trekking. Tourists visit this place to enjoy the scenic locations. Banasura Sagar Dam is opened all days including weekends from 9 am to 5 pm.

Pakshipathalam Bird Sanctury
Pakshipathalam Bird Sanctuary is nothing less than a paradise for nature lovers, trackers, and birdwatchers and it is located in Wayanad. The sanctuary offers an exciting experience of uninhabited forests, waterfalls, and steep hills.

Pazhassi Raja Tomb
The Pazhassi Tomb is where thousands regularly pay homage to the famous Lion of Kerala, Kerala Varma Pazhassi Raja. The tomb was constructed in the place where his body was cremated, and is situated on the banks of River Kabani in Mananthavady
In 1996 March this tomb has been converted to museum and today the museum is one of the centres in the State which attracts historians, researchers and students from far and wide.

Kabani River
Also known as Kapila, the Kabini River forms the lifeline of Wayanad district of Kerala. Along with Pamba and Bhavani, it is one of three East-flowing rivers of the state. The source of the river is in the Pakramthalam hills, near Kuttyadi-Mananthavady road. Rivers joining the Kabini along its course are Makkiyad, Manathavady, Taraka, Nugu, Periya, Kalindi and Panamaram. At the confluence of Panamaram and Kabini rivers form the Kuruva Island, or Kuruvadweep. Kabini flows eastward to join the Kaveri River at Tirumakudal Narasipur, in Karnataka.

Neelimala
The Neelimala viewpoint is easily among the upper echelon in the district. Here, one gets a pristine view of the great Meenmutti Waterfalls,causing people to throng to this destination in large numbers. The trek up to the viewpoint is just as beautiful as the destination itself. You are surrounded by plants and flowers of all varieties and hues along, with the refreshing aroma of coffee giving you company the entire way. Small birds chirp merrily and urge you to the summit. Soon the setting changes and the mighty Western Ghats appear at their finest. The clouds seem closer and the valley appears to extend indefinitely from this point. From the mist covered slopes to the massive boulders in interesting formations around you, you get to choose whichever slice of nature you wish to explore.

If you wish to give a boost to your Wayanad vacation with a bit of eco tourism, then Bamboo Forest is one of the most surreal places that you should not miss out upon. These unique forests are known for preserving the most endangered flora and fauna and also constitute an integral part in the daily life of tribals who depend on the forests.
These forests extend up to the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve and a natural habitat for many animals like bison, cheetah, wild bears etc. Bamboo Forest in Wayanad are protected by government authorities and known for collecting a grain called ‘bamboo rice’ that is used in many traditional food recipes in Wayanad.

Meenmutty Waterfalls
Located 29 km from Kalpetta in Wayanad district, this waterfall is one of the topmost attractions in Wayanad. The three tired waterfall, at a height of 300m is the biggest waterfalls in Wayanad and the second largest in Kerala.
Meenmutty waterfall is considered to be a dangerous spot. So, you should be more careful while playing with the water. The best time to visit Meenmutty is from October to May. Visiting during monsoon season is not recommended. You can hire buses or taxis from Kalpetta to reach Meenmutti.

Karlad Lake
A quiet retreat, Karlad Lake is a natural freshwater lake located around 8 kms from Vythiri and 3 kms away from Banasura Sagar Dam in Wayanad. The Wayanad Adventure Camp here offers a wide range of activities for the adventure enthusiasts out there. The activities organized involve Kayaking, Zipline, Rock climbing, Boating, Nature walk and Bamboo rafting. An all season Swiss cottage tents here offer best accommodation facility for the travallers.

Phantom Rock
Phantom Rock is situated 2600 feet above sea level, on the way to Ambalavayal from Wayanad. The rock resembles the skull of a human and its name is inspired by the evergreen Phantom comics. Locally the place is called 'Cheengeri Mala.' There are well-connected roads to reach this place, but the last 500 meters is a trek on foot. Phantom rock is a popular destination amongst trekkers and hikers because it has a good trail which leads up to a great viewpoint. If you’re not the adventurous type, you can see it from afar, as you stop on the highway to sip a cup of Chai (tea).

Heritage Museum
The Wayanad Heritage Museum at Ambalavayal houses some of the most important relics and artefacts from Wayanad’s past, dating all the way back to the 2nd century C.E. These have convinced archaeologists and historians of the advances that these civilizations made, with the clay sculptures, ancient hunting equipment like bows and arrows, stone weapons and other curios all adding to the mystique surrounding the place. Located 12 km away from picturesque Sultan Bathery, it is among the finest storehouses of knowledge in the entire State.

Kanthanpara
Twenty two kilometers away from Kalpetta, you can find Kanthanpara waterfalls. The breathtaking attraction of the path leading to Kanthanpara waterfall seems to more beautiful than the fall itself. The waterfall is only 30 m high and comparatively, this is one is smaller than Meenmutty and Soochipara. This waterfall is very safe for children. They can enjoy here utmost.

Chembra
The highest peak in Wayanad at an altitude of 6,890 ft above sea level. It is also one of the highest peaks in the western ghats that is above 2,000 m. The peak is visible from the different parts of Wayanad. It is located 8 km south of Kalpetta and near the town of Meppadi. Trekking to Chembra Peak can be started from Meppadi town itself. There is a forest office on the way to the starting point where you need to take permission. The Chembra Peak VSS, under the control of South Wayanad Forest Department provides permission as well as a guide.

Tholpetty Wild Life Sanctury
Tholpetty Wildlife Sanctuary or Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary is a beautiful destination located 20 km east of Mananthavady on the Kodagu Road. The jeep ride here offers brilliant opportunities to view various animal and bird species in their natural habitat. One gets to see herds of elephants, guars, deer, monkeys, tigers, leopards, bears and many species of reptiles, fishes, butterflies and birds including vultures. Visitors are restricted to the outer tourist zone. It gives one an excellent perspective on how we must strive to conserve these natural wonders.
